Honoring Our Fallen Soldiers

This Memorial Day, I did something with the family that in years past, I had not done. We took part in the Memorial Day ceremony in Simpsonville, SC. I felt compelled, as do many Americans, to do something today to honor our fallen men and women in uniform. Even though my seemingly short trip and presence at the ceremony seemed insignificant compared to those who sacrificed so much, I felt like I had to be there. Maybe it was because of my father's service in the military. Maybe it was because of my brother, who is serving a second tour of duty in Iraq just outside of Baghdad. Or maybe because my son, who is only 12, may some day wear a military uniform. I'm not sure exactly what is was, but I hope the veterans from all the wars who were at the ceremony today, know that their fallen comrades did so to defend the liberties, I and every other American, sometimes take for granted. I was especially honored to see a World War II veteran, some 62 years later, receive his purple heart. I was also encouraged to hear the words of a South Carolina senator when he spoke of God and service to our country. Senator Jim DeMint did both and it was refreshing. I was awestruck to see a fly over. Of course, I've seen many growing up around military bases but would have never expected one over the small town of Simpsonville, SC. I was impressed to say the least. I hope, as a father, and we as a family, continue to take every opportunity we can to honor our soldiers, those currently in uniform and those who have worn a uniform and have gone on to meet our creator.

The Holts Get Together

Every so often the Holts get together and enjoy quality family time. Lots of food, drink, and dessert to make anyone jealous. Plus who can forget the kids. And our family brings a boatload. Needless to say, everyone enjoys the time well spent in the pool, by the pool, or just hanging inside the home we like to call Mom and Dad's.

Allie's Horse Show

Okay, so needless to say the sun was extremely hot today but it was worth it. We watched young Allie trot along on Sandy and see her beaming smile. She did great! It's pretty amazing to know that a little girl can control such a large animal like that. You can tell she's getting more confident by the day when she rides. Who knows, one day, she could be jumping those poles and landing in water puddles at those Equestrian competitions. Good job today Allie, you deserve to be congratulated!
Oh, by the way, little Collin held up well under the conditions. Needless to say, he was worn out and slept in the ride home. Amanda's not doing so well, another bout of strep has rendered her body weary and tired. Hopefully today's nap will give her some much needed rest. Chris and Meagan fared well and didn't mind seeing the horses. We stayed a little longer to see the next group and snap a few shots of the stables which I may incorporate into a new website design for them.
Also, Meagan and I, kicked Christopher and his buddy Hunter's butt in a game of basketball. Meagan scored 6 of our 10 buckets. She may be small but I think she may have potential. Until next time, this is daddy over and out.
